Grandkids and grandparents are getting set to get gown at a free, fun creative workshop, all part of Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival.

Whether you’re a groovy grandma or a fly-stepping five-year-old, this is school holiday event for you. The Grand Get Down invites five to eight-year-olds to bring along their over 65-year-old grandparents (or important elder in their life) to hit the dancefloor for a free, fun and joyful school holiday workshop for the young and eternally young at heart.

Local performance company Everybody NOW! will host the workshop, which will run from 1.30pm ‘til 3pm on Tuesday April 16 at Burleigh RSL Hall. Producer Kate Baggerson said grandkids and their grandparents could come along to shake and shuffle through decades of party anthems and Get Down in Grand style.

“Have you ever heard the expression, “Shake it like yo’ Grandma taught you!”? Well it’s time to shake it with Grandma and Grandpa,” says Kate. “Whether your favourite move is a two-step or the twist, boogie woogie or the whip nae nae, this is your chance to leave age at the door, hit the dance floor together and get down!”

The workshop is accessible for all experience, bodies and mobility – all you need is enthusiasm to participate – and is a part of the community research for a new inter-generational project by Everybody NOW!, supported by the City of Gold Coast.

Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival will see 132 incredible art experiences come to the region over 12 days from 17 – 28 April. Head to www.bleachfestival.com.au to find out more about the Grand Get Down and the other Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival events!
