How’s your garden looking after all the rain over the summer?

If a mountain of garden maintenance is on your to-do list, help could be at hand with a green waste bin. Available from City of Gold Coast, you can fill the bin with a wide range of green garden waste, including clippings, palm fronds, leaves and small branches, and it’ll be collected from your kerbside every fortnight.

Timing is everything, according to Horticulturist Wendy Lamp from the Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens.

“The Gold Coast is generally much drier over the next few months, so as the rain gives way, it’s the perfect time to get back on top of everything. My advice is to concentrate on shape pruning, cutting back excess growth especially after flowering and also on mulching, which will help the soil to retain moisture, helping your plants cope with any long dry spells ahead,” she said.

If you order a green waste bin now – from just $1 a week – City of Gold Coast will upgrade your yellow lid recycling bin to a larger one free. That’s 40% more space for your family’s recycling, as well as a tidy garden. What a bonus!
