Thursday August 1 thru to Saturday August 3, from 5pm ‘til 9pm // HOTA, Surfers Paradise

This free community festival will transform HOTA into a glowing night-time adventure for the whole family. The centre-piece, BOREALIS, lets Gold Coasters experience the Northern Lights from the comfort of their picnic blankets as the glorious colours of the aurora are projected over the Outdoor Stage lawns. The dreamlike FierS à Cheval, a spectacular cavalcade of glowing white horses, will delight the crowds, while at the Outdoor Stage, contemporary visual artist Meagan Streader will showcase her incredible sculptural and immersive maze of towering structures is made from hundreds of lines of electroluminescent wires. Mountain by Stalker will take your eyes to the sky with an innovative visual spectacle combining aerial theatre with cutting-edge interactive technology, while the The Flash Collective and their disco dalek themed performance will delight the whole family.


Friday August 2 & Saturday August 3 // HOTA, Surfers Paradise

The achingly beautiful and tender language of Oscar Wilde joins the intimate and magical world of internationally acclaimed Adelaide theatre company, Slingsby. Journey in wonder, to a land of challenging choices and rich rewards. A cleverly staged immersive entry process brings the audience into the world of the show and casts the audience as the people of the kingdom. This is one performance the whole family will love!


Friday August 2 thru to Sunday August 4 // Various locations, Northern NSW

The annual Byron Writers Festival is Australia’s largest and leading regional celebration of storytelling, literature and ideas, presenting more than 150 sessions and attracting an audience of approximately 12,000 people in the stunning surrounds of Byron Bay. This year, don’t miss the bumper ‘Kids Big Day Out’ program, complete with immersive storytelling, talks from illustrators and authors and entertainment for everyone.


Saturday August 3, from 1pm ‘til 6pm // Coomera Rivers State School, Coomera

Complete with rides, animal attractions, carnival food, sideshow alley, market stalls, a teacher dunk tank, soccer dart, wine tent and a dazzling fireworks display, you can’t miss out on this year’s Coomera Rivers State Fair. Saturday August 3, from 3pm ‘til 8pm // Various locations, Varsity Lakes

An experience like no other, Varsity Winterfest is the perfect excuse to break out your winter woollies, put on your beanies and scarves and join in on the culture, food and fun times. This year’s big day will encompass a jam-packed program starting at 3pm with a festival the whole family can enjoy – plus, it’s completely FREE EVENT! See Varsity Lakes come alive with activities for businesses, the young at heart, the cultured, and for families and friends. The day will end with a bay with an extravagant fireworks display.


Saturday August 3 & Sunday August 4 // North Burleigh Beach, Burleigh Heads

The Burleigh BBQ is fast becoming the hot favourite event to attend, not just for competitors but meat lovers and barbecue enthusiasts alike. With incredible picturesque views, a smokin’ vibe and true beachside community feel, this event continues to build heat and momentum way long after the barbecue teams have left the pit yard for all stakeholders concerned.
