Saturday December 8, from 3pm // Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach

After a rained-out event in 2017, Broadbeach are determined to make their 2018 the best yet with a smurfin’ sack full of entertainment planned in Kurrawa Park for Saturday 8 December. Presented by Pacific Fair, who are providing FREE parking from 3pm, the Broadbeach Christmas Carols kicks off with awesome kids rides followed by the only Gold Coast Christmas stage appearance from our favourite little blue friends, The Smurfs. Singing may not be The Smurfs greatest forte, so to lead the Christmas Carols from 6pm, Broadbeach Alliance is delighted to welcome back seasoned favourites of the event, Martin Crewes who will be accompanied by the incredible Danielle Everett. The Little Pacca’s zone hosting a range of family activities including the Base Zero Rock Climbing Wall, Giant Slide, Face Painting, and Gecko Sports obstacle courses, commences from 3pm. The Carols starting at 6pm will be hosted by 102.9 Hot Tomato’s Flan, Emily Jade and Christo so grab your family and friends, light a candle and get ready for a phenomenal night of Christmas entertainment!

Friday December 7, from 7pm ‘til 8.30pm // Downfall Creek Bushland Centre, McDowall

Enjoy a guided night-walk and discover the wonders of the Raven Street Reserve after dark. With two kilometres of bushland to discover, make sure you eat a light snack beforehand – there’s no time for a break! The activity will continue in light rain, and there’s free car-parking and public toilets are available on-site.

Are you ready for the ultimate Christmas light experience? Commencing near ‘Queensland Greats’, wander through shimmering gardens, delicately-lit weeping figs, the twinkling rainforest, and to a tranquil lake where you can enjoy food truck eats and live music. Entry is free and, based on the success of last year’s garden, this year has a new format with a much bigger footprint, longer opening hours and no queue to see the lights.

The world’s tallest and most extreme standalone inflatable waterslide has officially arrived at Broadwater Parklands. The world record-breaking waterslide is not for the faint of heart and is definitely a thrill ride. Choose the intensity of your wedgie – from the Little Wedgie right through to the Big Chucka. There’s never been a better reason to get a wedgie!

Nothing says Christmas like delicious gingerbread, and Westfield Coomera is just the place to get into the holiday spirit! Kids are invited to get creative and decorate their very own delicious gingerbread, with each child provided pre-baked gingerbread pieces, icing plus decorations to create their very own gingerbread masterpiece.

To coincide with HOTA’s ‘Let there be rock!’ exhibition, kids can design and modify a t-shirt by learning how to make fabric designs, cuts and alterations – all without a sewing machine or fancy dyes. Session one is best suited for kids aged five to ten, and will have them cutting and using stencils and markers to create their rocking tee. Session two is for kids 11-16, and will offer the full glam-rock modification treatment.

This beloved, free family event returns for another year of Christmas fun, all in support of the Children’s Hospital Foundation. Enjoy the magic of Christmas with some of Australia’s most celebrated singers and entertainers as they perform festive songs and traditional carols, as well as plenty of pre-concert entertainment before the performances kick off at 7pm.

Dust Temple presents Dusty People, a celebration of artists, songwriters, illustrators, poets and scribes! The brainchild of local artist Dion Ribs, this collaborative exhibition showcases the amazing creative community that has grown around Dust Temple in the last five years. Come along to the opening night to see the presentation of the Dust Temple Artist Award, to a local artist who has contributed to the creative growth of the area in ways unmeasurable.

It’s the ultimate celebration of all things rock here on the Gold Coast. Once a hotspot for touring musos, including the likes of The Ramones, The Go-Betweens, INXS and Cold Chisel, this exhibition celebrates the Gold Coast’s glory day as a hub of musical magnetism, featuring stand-out venues like the Playroom, Bombay Rock and Jet Club. See memorabilia, video and photos and be transported back in time.

Sunday December 9, from 5am ‘til 3pm // Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach

Get ready to run! The Gold Coast 50 Run is scheduled to hit Broadbeach this weekend, and the main event – a 50km run along the paths of the Gold Coast beachfront, from Kurrawa to Coolangatta and return – is sure to be quite the spectacle. Shorter events also include the 30km, 15km and 5km events, along with a 2 person relay (2 x 25km) or the new 3 person relay (30km, 15km and 5km).

Rock it out at HOTA with plenty of rock-related fun to celebrate the launch of, your guessed it, ‘Let there be rock!’. Dress up like a rock star – and overcome your stage fright in the process – and feel like you’re bolder, louder and not shy at all! Make a wild rock’n’roll wig from paper and ribbon. When you are finished you’ll be all ready to strut your stuff on stage.

The Charity Bike Build for kids is one of the most popular local charity events, which sees groups work on their teamwork, problem solving and communication whilst also having lots of fun! Designed to challenge teams and create an opportunity to give back to the community, this event will have teams facing challenges to build the best bike – and everyone’s a winner when they see the joy on the children’s faces as they receive a new bike presented to them.
