Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, but how does it fit into the skincare spectrum?

Turmeric is having its day in the sun right now, featuring in everyone’s golden lattes, roasted cauliflower dishes and staining at least one item in your kitchen artillery. So when I was invited by Spring Spa in Burleigh Heads, to try the triple turmeric peel, I was instantly curious.

Spring Spa were featuring the triple turmeric peel from the new Priori naturally adaptive skincare range as part of their ‘Winter Warmer Package’. So in I went to see Hanna, a Skin Aesthetician of 12 years at Spring Spa.

The treatment started with a cleanse, gentle exfoliation and then a second cleanse which primed me for the turmeric peel that followed… Did I turn orange? Well no, this particular product uses colourless turmeric. Here’s what I’ve found out about the new Priori range.

According to Priori…
“This ultimate adaptive treatment is an all-natural skin peel enriched with turmeric, papaya and pumpkin enzyme extracts. This face & body mask’s dual-action helps to treat dead skin cells, comedones, blackheads and acne that keep your skin from looking its best, and also nourishes, restores and deeply hydrates – a unique combination that is essential to achieving ideal skin.”

Some key features of the Priori Skincare range:

  • Triple Turmeric Complex (TTC): Highly potent natural compound of colourless turmeric root PLUS green tea, grape seed and liquorice root for a powerful multifunctional action: antioxidant, brightening and anti-inflammatory.
  • Non-Chemical Skin Peel: unlike chemical peels, Priori Natural Enzyme Peel & Mask will delicately exfoliate and unclog pores, stimulate cell turnover and replenish skin without redness or irritation.
  • Black Willow Bark Extract: Natural source of salicylic acid promoting skin exfoliation
  • Argan Oil & Shea Butter: to intensely moisturise and nourish the skin
  • Clean Beauty: Priori Clean Beauty products are not only cruelty-free, colourant and fragrance-free, but are also formulated without harsh chemicals that can cause skin irritations. Formulated without sulfates, SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehyde, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, and triclocarban. IRL… (In Real Life)

Once the turmeric peel was delicately painted on, a very slight tingle could be felt but this was soon forgotten about as a scalp massage was carried out whilst the peel was working its magic.  At the beginning of the consultation, I was asked to select a massage option. You had the choice of a head, hand or foot massage and the head won out. The next step was one of the best features of this facial. A back, neck and facial massage was performed – not as an afterthought, but as a carefully considered component.

Rich oils were massaged ALL the way down my back, neck and shoulders. Not an easy feat whilst lying face up! With flowy strokes and sweeping movements, Hanna moved to my face. The movements presumably designed to lift against gravity, promote circulation and work the oils into the skin. Finishing products and SPF were applied to finish off the one-hour treatment and my renewed skin was finally revealed.

All in all, this was a fabulous facial. The peel was super gentle, so not likely to cause any major irritation or peeling. The Priori clean beauty range would suit most skin types. A great choice for brightening, nourishing and delicate exfoliation.
