Yes, you heard that right. Two mums are helping kids replace lollies with healthier alternatives at parties.
Judy Mooosmueller and Jennifer Leckey are two mums who are passionate about helping kids enjoy and love healthy whole foods that are fresh from the ground (just the way food should be).
haven had a chat with Judy and Jen to find out more about what led them to share this passion in not one, but two fabulous family recipe books.
What was your inspiration to start your own business?
We love cooking (and eating!), love making a mess in the kitchen with our kiddiwinks, and we really felt a need to create a book that introduces wholefoods to little ones in a fun and accessible way.
When did you know the timing was ‘right’?
The time is never right in terms of the busyness of life but we just felt it was worth a try.
How did you make your big break?
We can’t yet say that we’ve made a big break but it’s steady away. We started slowly building the business and it grew organically. It’s been an insane amount of work on top of our day jobs, families, and everything else but we love it!
What was your training prior to starting your own business?
Jen is a teacher of French and German at a private high school and Judy runs a small design agency. Our books are our ‘side business’.
What are the biggest challenges of being a mum and a businesswoman?
Staying focused. The business is like a child itself that constantly needs attention and, just like a child, really keeps you on your toes! Getting the balance right can be tricky at times but the fact we love what we do and feel so passionately about it has really helped us to keep going.
What is your top tip for maintaining a work/life balance?
Do one thing at a time, take one step at a time, and make space in your life for the important people and important things. The rest then falls into place.
What is your biggest learning since starting your own business?
How long is this page? We learned a lot, especially when dealing with companies in China. The devil is in the detail they say.
What do you do in your spare time to keep yourself sane?
We spend a lot of time outdoors. Mostly at the beach. Every day, in fact.
What’s one thing other mums should do who are looking to start their own business?
Quite simply, give it a go! You never know where the journey will take you but you will learn so much along the way and hopefully have a great deal of fun too.
